I read it over the course of two days, thought “nice story” and placed it on my bookshelf as soon as I finished it. But I found that the lessons contained in this intriguing story of a rather shy young woman getting trapped in a vividly described curious world discovering her inner shadows and her true powers, must have taken up residence in my subconscious, because my mind keeps returning to the lessons of the story to find new and more subtle insights having formed. Arenia’s journey is an excellently written and utterly inspiring story, that will leave you wanting to read more.
I am not a big fan of Mut’s writing style, but her characters and the unique world she built around them are fantastic. Despite having to muddle through some parts, I couldn't help but continue to read just to find out what happens next. The story kept me guessing. Just when I thought there is smooth sailing ahead it twisted into another direction. It is definitely geared toward a younger audience and I (33) wasn’t the right target group. All in all it is a good read for those who are interested in a coming of age story.
There's nothing more refreshing than reading a novel by a first-time author and absolutely loving every word of it. The book has encoded subtexts that are full of ancient mythological and literary symbology (Blue Jay, Black Panther, Mermaids, Golden Key). We, too, along with Arenia are trapped in time and space. We learn about the mind and its workings the conscious mind vs. the unconscious mind. The author created wonderful imageries of the illusory nature of reality reflected not only in the characters but also the ever-changing landscape. Underworld allows us to explore life, contained within the “Now”. Kids, teens, and adults of all ages will love this read. Highly recommended!
I picked up "Arenia" among the vast selection of reader options due to its compelling cover. The painting of a young, calm, mythical creature slash mermaid got me interested (and only later I found out that it was designed by the author Gizem Mut herself...) and so I downloaded the book and gave it a quick first look - or at least that's what I thought. Before long, I was stuck, finding myself well into the story. A gripping tale, that I can only recommend to anybody, who enjoys reading not only as entertainment but as something more nurturing!
So there is more to this book than a pretty face - just as there is more to Arenia, the deeper you get sucked into her intriguing tale!
I purchased Arenia & The Golden Key before a trip to the beach and found myself engulfed in the book for hours at a time. Although the book is a fantasy, Arenia is relatable to us all. I highly recommend this book to fans of all genres. I assure you that once you pick up the book, you will have a difficult time putting it down.
I am a friend of the author and I could write just a normal review sounding like a random person who bought the book, but I decided to be really honest. As a friend of the writer you feel like kind of pressured to like the creation of your friend and say good things about it. I hadn't read a fantasy book in ages, also not so interested in that genre. So when I started reading Arenia& the Golden Key I was hoping I don't have to pretend too much afterwards. BUT the truth is, this book is really amazing! I loved it right from the beginning! It's so captivating that I found myself reading it anywhere I found a chance - subway, Starbucks, walking in the street like a phone zombie. And of course also on my cozy couch at home. It pulls you into this magical, wonderfully described worlds of Arenia and doesn't let you go. I could totally relate to the character Arenia and still she taught me a lot. I can totally recommend this book to anyone who wants to be taken on an exciting journey through a fantasy world which in fact is similar to ours but shows what's really going on! Think "Alice in wonderland" mixed with "Lord of the rings" and "Matrix" and add a bunch of eye-opening moments - that's Arenia & the Golden Key!
