enjoyable story, good pacing, some interesting dynamics in the characters, lighter and breezier than his Rebus narratives which can be a good thing
Different frim his other books but I still liked it.
Would like to see mire with these charactets.
Rebus is five star, the character is captivatingly flawed. Fox is four stars, flawed but not as intriguing. Witch Hunt.......Elder could be Rebus but he is not developed enough and the other characters are simply not interesting. The story line is OK but without a real central character it did not capture my attention
This storyline held my attention and curiosity. Interesting characters whose personalities and motives are slowly revealed. Loved the fact that the book has romantic elements but "clean" with a sense of morality regarding good and evil as well as sexual behavior.

Over blown, over the top and too predictable , bordering on the foolish.
A shift in locale and characters finds this spy thriller not as convincing as Scotland and its police procedurals. This is not quite up to the standard of Rebus and company.
I read all the reviews before buying the book so am somewhat taken aback by my reaction during my reading. I'm an avid reader and enjoy Ian rankin but frankly this is a flat, boring read for me. I'll finish it but it's hard going. All the characters bar none are totally uninteresting and the word and action play between Doyle and Greenleaf just plan silly and irritating. It's hard to believe this book and the Rebus and Malcolm Fox books were written by the same person.
